MEMBERSHIP – FRIENDS of Sculpture in the South

Our membership program provides a method through which nearly anyone of any means can be a part of bringing public sculpture to Summerville, adding to the funds being sought from granting organizations, corporations and foundations. Donations are accepted in the form of memberships, or as designated funds specifically going toward the purchase of permanent sculpture for Summerville. The "Friends of Sculpture in the South" form the organization and elect the Board of Directors.

To become a Friend of Sculpture in the South is EASY. Membership is good for one full year from the date received.

Sculpture Sponsor -- $5,000 & above

  Receive Permanent Recognition on Purchased Sculpture -- plus all benefits listed at lower levels.
Sustainer -- $1,000 - $4,999
  Receive a Sustainer Gift and Sustainer Recognition -- plus all benefits listed at lower levels.
Patron -- $500 - $999
   Receive 10% discount on purchase of sculpture -- plus all benefits listed at lower levels.

• Invitation for two to the private "Meet the Sculptors Reception" held the evening before the show.
• Admission to the special "Early-Bird Hour" from 9-10 on Saturday morning with first opportunity to purchase sculpture before the public is admitted.
• Entry for two to Sculpture in the South.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES with Sculpture in the South

Connect!  We want to provide the opportunity for everyone, especially those who might never step foot inside a museum, to encounter fine art in everyday life.

Advocacy

  1. Participate in the public process to promote sculpture and Summerville’s public sculpture program.

Development/Fundraising

  1. Attract capable and motivated people to help with fundraising. 
  2. Expand the organization’s capacity for receiving donations.

Educational Programs

  1. Promote awareness and appreciation of sculpture as an art form. 
  2. Provide opportunities for participation in the arts which are of interest to all age groups.
  3. Advance the “Speaking of Sculpture” docent program and speaker’s bureau.

Annual Exhibit & Sale

  1. Plan, strategize, coordinate, train.
  2. Meet and provide support for participating sculptors.
  3. Enhance visitors’ arts experience. 

Flowertown Festival Outreach

  1. This annual Summerville Family YMCA crafts festival, which takes place the first weekend in April, reportedly attracts 200,000 visitors.  Volunteers act as docents for Summerville’s public sculpture collection.

Marketing and Promotions

  1. Develop a plan to communicate effectively with our stakeholders. 
  2. Collaborate with other community organizations.

Membership

  1. Broaden the opportunities for Sculpture in the South members both to take leadership roles within the organization and to participate in the arts.
  2. Coordinate the Annual Meeting, held each September at the Dorchester Boat Club. 

Public Sculpture

  1. Develop a master plan for the acquisition of permanent sculpture for Summerville. 
  2. Carry out biannual public sculpture maintenance with volunteer teams.

10th Anniversary Celebration (2008)

  1. Communicate the values and philosophies that have made Sculpture in the South successful. 
  2. Provide stakeholders with a perspective on our history and our strategy for growth. 
  3. Strengthen donor and volunteer relationships. 
  4. Initiate an outreach to underdeveloped audiences and/or donor base.

Volunteers

  1. Bring about the connection between the public sculpture and the community. 
  2. Identify key individuals who want to help Sculpture in the South realize its mission.
