Latest Sculpture Just Chillin' Unveiled in Summerville

On October 25, 2023 we unveiled our 46th sculpture, Just Chillin'! We were delighted to have Sculptor Jack Hill with us for this special event as well as numerous members of our community. We have seen so many people already enjoying a visit to the banana named "Lenny" and that brings such joy to all of us.

Adding this piece would not have been possible without the generous support of our donors. We can't thank you enough for your contributions, it would not be possible without you! We were excited to be able to present this piece to the Town of Summerville. We are so grateful for a community that embraces the art and sees the joy these pieces bring to those who see them.

You can find Just Chillin' outside of the Saul Alexander Playground on South Laurel Street. Be sure to stop by and take a few photos. Don't forget to tag us when you post those photos!

We had photographer John Lindroth with us at the unveiling and he caught some great images. If you haven't seen them, be sure to check them out HERE!

Upcoming Events

The Annual Art & Garden Stroll, launched in Spring 2025 in downtown Summerville and it was well-attended. Next year's Art & Garden Stroll will be April 24, 2026!

This free event celebrates Summerville’s creativity and beauty, decorates the town with special flower displays, arrangements, and plants, provides opportunities for the public to interact with sculpting artists, and supports Sculpture in the South.

Sculpture in the South invited juried sculptors to be in attendance. Four sculptors chose to participate, each bringing several sculptures to illuminate the creative process and results. Engaging in discussions with artists regarding their art, their creative process, and how each piece became real, provides enriching experiences leading to new points of view and broadened horizons.

During this event, the Summerville Outdoor Sculpture Museum is highlighted, the history and origin of our organization is shared, as well as the creative vision of Sculpture in the South. Summerville’s citizens expressed a desire for public art; the community stepped up by founding Sculpture in the South!

Another sculpture project you'll enjoy is Birds In Residence: Downtown Summerville (B.I.R.D.S.). Since 2012, 23 bird sculptures** have been installed in the downtown Summerville area. CLICK HERE to see photos of the bird sculptures.

**NOTICE (9/12/25): Bird sculpture #4, The Cardinal, has been temporarily removed from his location for re-casting and will return as soon as the sculptor can complete that process. We appreciate your understanding and will remove this notice when the Cardinal sculpture returns.
